Typically it's newer DX12/Vulkan games that will do this.Ĥ. Will usually just be called "fullscreen", however some games always run in a borderless windowed mode even when set to "Fullscreen". Ensure the game is running in exclusive fullscreen mode. A couple games that will set to your displays max refresh rate instead of your manually set one include Arma 3 and Dying Light.ģ. Some games I know that force to 60hz are all three Dark Souls games, and all versions of Skyrim. Start a game that will force a refresh rate that is different than what your monitor is set to in Windows. For those who haven't used it before and want to test it you can find a tutorial on how to use it here: Ģ. Ensure Desktopoverlayhost is running and is displaying any kind of stat properly (fps, cpu temp, gpu usage, etc). ![]() I've put simple steps to reproduce the bug below:ġ. Im curious to see if the issue affects AMD gpus as well, but I don't have an AMD GPU to test with at the moment. I'm unsure it's a bug or a software limitation but I hope it can be fixed. I do like to run my games on exclusive fullscreen for best performance, input latency, and compatibility with G-sync, and also many older games don't have a proper borderless mode so this issue can affect many games. Setting preferred refresh rate to "highest available" in the Nvidia Control Panel also doesn't seem to work with most games so it doesn't effect the issue. I tried using 512.15 drivers and a clean install of 516.94 and the issue still occurred. I tested this on an Nvidia GTX 1080 with my primary monitor being an AOC AG271QG with a max refresh rate of 165hz and my secondary monitor is a Dell P2314H with a max refresh rate of 60hz. Interestingly, if I alt-tab out of the game the stat window will work normally, but stop working as soon as I tab back into the game. If I set my monitor the game is running on to 60hz, the stats window will work properly. Since my monitor was at 120hz, the stats window stops updating. I also tested Skyrim Special Edition and Dark Souls 3, which are both games that force the monitor it's running on to 60hz. If I set my monitor to 165hz, the stat window will work properly. As a result my the stats window stops updating. ![]() This issue does not occur when the game is running in windowed/borderless windowed mode.įor example, I tested Arma 3 and Dying Light and they both set my monitors refresh rate to 165hz, despite my Monitor being set to 120hz in Windows Settings. I recently discovered the desktopoverlayhost program included with MSI Afterburner to display stats on my secondary monitor, however I've discovered an issue where the stats window stops updating if the game is running in exclusive fullscreen and the game forces the monitor it is running on to change to a refresh rate that is different than the one set in Windows Settings/Nvidia control panel.
